Harman Fortified Church

Harman Fortified Church is situated in Harman Village, near Brasov town.

The first attestation of Harman was made in the 13th century when the Hungarian King Bela the 4th offered Harman and other fortifications in the area to the Cistercian monks after defeating the Teutonic Knights.

The church was built in Romanic style and suffered many changes during the time. In the 15th century the community wanted to transform the basilica in gothic style, but they only erected the 32 meters tower, the highest in the area at that time. The beauty of the church exterior is represented by the pantries built on the sides and their mobile stairs. The fortification built in the 15th century consists in thick 12 meters high walls and 7 defensive towers.
